Attacks on this day
1943
U-456. After attacking convoy SL 128 west of Porto, Portugal, the boat was seriously damaged by depth charges or bombs, but was able to repair the damage and continue the patrol. (Blair, vol 2, page 296)
U-230. Despite being repeatedly attacked by aircraft while shadowing convoy SL 128 west of Porto, Portugal, U-230 nonetheless managed to maintain contact without suffering serious damage. (Blair, vol 2, page 297)
1944
U-548. Following U-548s sinking of the Canadian frigate HMS Valleyfield off St Johns Newfoundland, other Allied escorts (after finally deducing what had happened) hunted the boat, with no success. (Blair, vol 2, page 562)
1945
U-3503. The target of the attack by a British Liberator (RAF Sqn 86/K), often credited with sinking U-2534, was actually U-3503, which escaped with minor damage.
